MAGIC STRINGS

The violinists ensemble VÕLUKEELED (MAGIC STRINGS) was created at Tallinn Old Town Music School in 2012.

The repertoire, which we play, allows us to get acquainted with various music genres. The ensemble enables children/youth with different preparation levels to play together. It is exiting to make music as a group and it gives a lot of joy. The everyday repertoire that we play varies from classical to pop, from folk and country to musicals. Performances are held as solo artists, smaller groups, and as ensemble.

Magic Strings has given concerts and performed in a variety of places both at home in Estonia and accross the globe.

To bring out a few of the more interesting or important places, we will mention here: West Coast Estonian Days in 2015 in Whistler (Canada), concerts in Toronto, children camps in Ontario, pan-European Suzuki convention in Switzerland Davos, global Suzuki children concert in Royal Albert Hall in London, Mother’s Day concert in Tallinn Old Town Square, Disney films music concert in Nordea concert hall, Estonian Broadcast’s charity program Jõulutunnel (Christmas tunnel), 2016 Adelaide XXVI Estonian Days (Australia), 2017 concert in Finland in collaboration with Raasepori music school, 2018 participation in the Netherlands international youth festival in Watergate, 2018 Canada (Estonia 100), 2018 USA (Maryland-Washington-New York, including a performance at the Lincoln Center), 2018 USA San Francisco-Stanford, 2018 Latvia, 2019 France and Italy tour (Provencal International Youth Orchestras festival, Cremona Music Festival, Prato Festival, Florence International Youth orchestras festival. Concerts in: Drap, Villfranche sur Mer, Aix en Provence cathedral, Antibes, Cremona, Terme de Montecattini, Florence Basilica Santa Groce,  Prato).

Magic strings has delivered hundreds of concerts, for example during 2018 we had 70 concerts a total. In 2022 we participated in enormous fundraising concert for Ukraine (https://arhiiv.err.ee/video/vaata/maailm-mis-jaab-meile) It was broadcasted via Estonian National Television and we helped to gather 150 000 euros for Ukrainian child refugees in Estonia.

The ensemble is directed by Tereza Šmerling-Heinsaar, who in 2018 was elected the best violin teacher by the Culture Endowement of Estonia.

Amongst the concert group composition are also youths who as soloists have in many years achieved first places in the pan Estonian and international violin competitions.
